May 2014 Commencement

Wayne State University confers degrees for Fall, Winter and Spring/Summer terms and honors its graduates by hosting Commencement ceremonies in December and May. The ceremonies are for students completing degrees only - Ph.D., Ed.,D., Doctoral, Master's and Bachelor's.
The May 2014 Commencement ceremonies will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2014 at Ford Field. The ceremonies are scheduled for 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The complete ceremony schedule is listed below.
If appropriate deadlines are met, students completing their degree requirements in one of the following terms may participate in the May 2014 Commencement ceremonies:
All Winter term Ph.D./Ed.D. candidates must check with their advisor and/or dean's office in the Graduate School or the College of Education for the exact requirements needed to complete in order to participate in the May Commencement ceremonies.
Spring/Summer Ph.D. candidates are not eligible to participate in the May Commencement ceremony.

All Ph.D. and Ed.D. candidates will participate with their respective school or college ceremony.
Review you STARS Degree Audit in Pipeline and contact your academic advisor if you are unsure if all your requirements have been met.
APPLY FOR YOUR DEGREE
All degree candidates must apply to have their degrees certified in Pipeline.To submit an application, log into Pipeline, click on the "Student" tab and select "Apply for Degree or Certificate" from the Student Records menu.There is a $40 non-refundable certification fee that must be paid before your application for degree certification can be considered. Payment must be made at the time of application either by credit card or electronic check. If you are currently registered, you can also choose to add the fee to your student account. NOTE: You will have to reapply and pay the $40 fee again if you do not complete your degree requirements in the term of application so please make sure to check with your advisor before applying.
WINTER 2014 - APPLICATION DEADLINE/PROCESS
If you will be completing your degree requirements in the Winter 2014 term you must complete the online Degree Application through Pipeline by Friday, February 7, 2014. You will then be eligible to participate in the May 2014 commencement ceremony.
SPRING/SUMMER 2014 - APPLICATION DEADLINE/PROCESS
If you will be completing your degree requirements in the Spring/Summer term and would like to participate in the May 2014 Commencement ceremony the deadline to complete the Degree Application through Pipeline is Friday, March 7, 2014. Completing the online application by this date will ensure your eligibility to participate in the May 2014 Commencement ceremony. If you apply after March 7 you may still participate in commencement ceremony but your name will not be listed in the program book. Your name will appear in the December 2014 Commencement program book.
The March 7 deadline applies to students receiving an Ed.D., Doctor of Audiology, Doctor of Nursing Practice, Doctor of Pharmacy, Doctor of Physical Therapy, Master's degree and Bachelor's degree. Spring/Summer Ph.D. candidates are not eligible to participate in the May Commencement ceremony.
Spring/Summer applicants who choose not to participate in the May commencement ceremony have until Friday, June 6, 2014 to complete the online degree application. Those students will then be eligible to participate inthe December 2014 Commencement ceremony.
Be sure to apply for the term in which you will be completing your degree. If you choose the incorrect term you will have to reapply and pay the graduation fee again.
Walking in commencement does not mean you have completed your degree requirements. Please verify with both your major advisor in your department and your general education advisor at the University Advising Center that you will be completing all your requirements in the correct term.
Ph.D. Candidates - Please contact the Graduate School at firstname.lastname@example.org for exact requirements you need to complete in order to participate in commencement.
Ed.D. Candidates - Plesae contact your advisor and the College of Education Graduate Advising Office at
577-1635 for the exact requirements you need to complete in order to participate in commencement.
Graduates are required to have a "Graduate Access Pass" which will allow them admission to Ford Field and entry to the graduate assembly area. Graduates will not be allowed on the field without an access pass.The passes will be distributed during Grad Expo.
Tickets are required for guests attending commencement. Each eligilbe student may receive up to (15) guest tickets. Guest admission to Ford Field is by ticket only. Children ages two and under do not require a ticket. Please note: Ford Field does not permit strollers, car seats or infant seats.
Grad Expo will be held on Thursday, March 20 and Friday, March 21 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Welcome Center and the WSU Bookstore.
During Grad Expo students will be able to:
- Confirm eligibility to participate in commencement
- Receive Graduate Access Pass and guest tickets (Graduates are allowed up to 15 guest tickets. A photo ID and signature is required before tickets will be released.)
- Recieve commencement guide with detailed instructions for graduates and guests
- Purchase cap and gown
- Speak with a representative from the Office of the Registrar
- Order graudation announcements
- Purchase diploma frame
- Order class ring
- Speak with a Financial Aid representative
- Receive information from the WSU Alumni Association
If you are unable to attend Grad Expo please make arrangements to have your tickets picked up by a family member or friend. You must send a signed permission letter with the name of the person your access pass and tickets may be released to and a copy of your photo ID before tickets will be released.
ALTERNATE ACCESS PASS AND TICKET DISTRIBUTION DATES
If students are unable to attend Grad Expo access passes and guest tickets will be distributed on the following days and locations:
- Tuesday, March 25 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the lobby of the Academic Administration Building, (AAB), 5700 Cass Ave. (corner of Cass and Palmer) For exact location visit: www.campusmap.wayne.edu.
- Thursday, March 27 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the lobby of the Academic Administration Building (AAB), 5700 Cass Ave. (corner of Cass and Palmer)
- Tuedsay, April 8 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Oakland Center, 33737 West Twelve Mile Road, Farmington Hills. Directions to the Oakland Center may be found at www.oakland.wayne.edu/center/location.php.
- Monday, April 14 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the lobby of the Academic Administration Building (AAB), 5700 Cass Ave. (corner of Cass and Palmer)
- Wednesday, April 23 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the lobby of the Academic Administration Building (AAB), 5700 Cass Ave. (corner of Cass and Palmer) THIS IS THE LAST DAY ACCESS PASSES AND TICKETS WILL BE DISTRIBUTED.
A student photo ID and signature is required before passes and tickets will be released. Tickets will not relesed without proper identification. All graduates must have an access pass and guests must have tickets for admission to Ford Field.
SPECIAL NEEDS/DISABILITY SEATING
Limited seating is available for guests with disabilities and mobility limitations. Special needs tickets are required for these seating areas. Graduates must request this ticket when picking up guest tickets.
Due to space constraints, guests with disabilities who require special seating may be accompanied by one escort only to the special seating sections.
