The May 2012 Commencement ceremony will be held Monday, May 7, 2012  at 7 p.m. at Ford Field.

 
COMMENCEMENT INFORMATION

Wayne State University confers degree for Fall, Winter, and Spring/Summer terms and honors its students by hosting Commencement ceremonies in May and December.  The ceremonies are for students completing degrees only - Ph.D., Ed.D., Doctoral, Master's and Bachelor's.
 

If appropriate deadlines are met, students completing their degree requirements in one the following terms may participate in the May 2012 commencement ceremony:

     Winter 2012
     Spring/Summer 2012

 

All Ph.D./Ed.d. candidates must check with their advisor and/or dean's office in the Graduate School or the College of Education for the exact requirements needed to complete in order to participate in the the May commencement ceremony.

Review you STARS Degree Audit in Pipeline and contact your academic advisor if you are unsure if all your requirements have been met.

APPLY FOR YOUR DEGREE
All degree candidates must apply to have their degrees certified in Pipeline.  To submit an application, log into Pipeline, click on the "Student" tab and select "Apply for Degree or Certificate" from the Student Records menu.  There is a $40 non-refundable certification fee that must be paid before your application for degree certification can by considered. Payment must be made at the time of application either by credit card or electronic check. If you are currently registered, you can also choose to add the fee to your student account.  NOTE:  You will have to reapply and pay the $40 fee again if you do not complete your degree requirements in the term of application so please make sure to check with your advisor before applying.

 

WINTER 2012 - APPLICATION DEADLINE/PROCESS
If you will be completing your degree requirements in the Winter 2012 term you must complete the online Degree Application through Pipeline by Friday, February 10, 2012Please make sure you apply for the Winter 2012 term.  You will then be invited to participate in the May 2012 commencement ceremony.

 

SPRING/SUMMER 2012 - APPLICATION DEADLINE/PROCESS
If you will be completing your degree requirements in the Spring/Summer term and would like to participate in the May 2012 commencement ceremony the deadline to complete the Degree Application through Pipeline is Friday, March 9, 2012. Completeing the online application by this date will ensure your eligibility to participate in the May 2012 commencement ceremony. Please make sure you apply for the Spring/Summer 2012 term.

 

The March 9 deadline applies to students receiving an Ed.D., Doctor of Audiology, Doctor of Pharmacy, Doctor of Physical Therapy, Master's of Bachelor's degrees.  Spring/Summer Ph.D. recipients are not eligible to participate in the May commencement ceremony.
 

Spring/Summer applicants who choose not to participate in the May commencement ceremony, the deadline to apply for degree certification is Friday, June 8, 2012.  You will then be invited to participate in the December 2012 commencement ceremonies.
 

Be sure to apply for the term in which you will be completing your degree.  If you choose the incorrect term you will have to reapply and pay the graduation fee again.
 

Walking in commencement does not mean you have completed your degree requirements. Please verify with both your major advisor in your department and your general education advisor at the University Advising Center that you will be completing all your requirements in the correct term.
 

Ph.D./Ed.D. CANDIDATES
Ph.D. Candidates - Please contact the Graduate School at phdstudents@wayne.edu for exact requirements you need to complete in order to participate in commencement.  Spring/Summer Ph.D. recipients are not eligible to participate in the May commencement ceremony.
 

Ed.D. Candidates - Plesae contact your advisor and the College of Education Graduate Advising Office at 577-1635 for the exact requirements you need to complete in order to participate in commencement.
 

TICKET INFORMATION
Tickets are required for graduates and guests.  Each eligible student may receive a maximum of (10) guest tickets in addition to their ticket.  Entrance to Ford Field and the ceremony is by ticket only.  Tickets will be distributed on the following dates and locations:

GRAD EXPO
Grad Expo will be held on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, March 28, 29 and 30 from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. at the Welcome Center and Barnes & Noble Bookstore located on the northwest corner of Woodward and Warren Avenues.

 

Students attending Grad Expo can take care of the following commencement needs:
     -Pick up commencement tickets  

     -Purchase cap and gown
     -Order graduation announcements
     -Purchase diploma frame
     -Speak with a representative from Financial Aid
     -Order class rings
     -Receive information from the WSU Alumni Association
     -Take advantage of additional services provided

 

A photo ID and signature will be required before tickets will be released.  Tickets will not be released without proper identification.  There is no waiting list for additional tickets.  The WSU Commencement Office does not sell additional tickets or replace lost tickets.
 

If you are unable to attend Grad Expo please make arrangements to have your tickets picked up by a family member or friend. You must send a signed permission letter with the name of the person your tickets may be relaeased to and a copy of your photo ID before tickets will be released. 
 

ALTERNATE TICKET DISTRIBUTION DATES AND LOCATIONS
If students are unable to attend Grad Expo tickets will be also be distributed on the following days and locations:

 

  • Thursday, April 5 from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. in the lobby of the Academic Administration Building (AAB), 5700 Cass Avenue (corner of Cass and Palmer).
     
  • Tuesday, April 10 from 3 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Oakland Center, 33737 West Twelve Mile Road, Farmington Hills.  Directions to the Oakland Center may be found at: www.oakland.wayne.edu/center/location.php.
     
  • Thursday, April 19 from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. in the lobby of the Academic Administration Building (AAB), 5700 Cass Avenue (corner of Cass and Palmer).
     
  • Wednesday, April 25 from 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. in the lobby of the Academic Administration Building (AAB), 5700 Cass Avenue (corner of Cass and Palmer).  This is the last day tickets will be issued.
     

If you are unable to attend the alternate ticket dates please make arrangements to have your tickets picked up by a family member or friend.  Remember to send a signed permission letter and copy of your photo ID so tickets may be released.

EXTRA TICKETS ARE NOT AVAILABLE.   TICKETS ARE REQUIRED FOR ALL GRADUATES AND GUESTS ATTENDING COMMENCEMENT.
